Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Vesper has a thing for numbers. Being part of the HM Treasury's Financial Action Task Force, she's been known to crunch numbers. While she doesn't show it too much, she is fascinated by mathematics and can quickly calculate any equation given to her. And if you want your taxes done, she's sure to do it for you. She's also very much the actress, especially when she goes undercover to expose fraudulent financial institutions who are financing terrorists and money laundering. She's also very skillful at deception when it comes to being undercover, another part of her job.
Conditional: Vesper's dormant abilities are self-detonation, water manipulation, and as a side-ability to the first, thermal resistance. Even though she would be equipped with self-detonation, she has the ability to recover from it, her body becoming vapor before she recollects herself. At first, they will be "small" explosions and only when she gets herself worked up in anger or is visibly upset. Then she will learn to control her ability and the strength with which she can self-destruct. She maybe developed this ability because before she died, the building she was in exploded and began to sink into the Venetian canal.
Weapons: None.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Vesper was born on a "dark and stormy night" and her parents named her after the Latin word vespers meaning evening. Her biography in the film can be found here.
Point in Canon: While she was dying in the elevator
Character Personality:Vesper is a very sharp girl. To be able to spot discrepancies in accounts and the like, she has to have her head on her shoulders, which she does. Most of the time, Vesper is a very serious woman. Her job calls for it and it has become part of her personal life. She only shares the bare minimum in her life such as her name and whom she works for, if you have the right credentials to even know that information. While she works in a field where she must go undercover often to expose fraudulent financial institutions, she is very emotional when pushed to the brink. Even though she may pretend to be all grown up, she is still a young woman at the age of 25. She can become very confused and very frazzled in an unfamiliar situation and often needs a stronger person to hold her together.
But when she has control over a situation, she's as cool as the other side of the pillow. Vesper walks with her head held high and her aura gives off something more authoritative than one would think from a young woman. This makes her seem older than she actually is and she uses this to her advantage. She speaks calmly constantly and is very witty. She can make the occasional snappy remark, but overall she's a pleasant woman once you get to know her. She's prickly and professional at first.
However, she is very guarded. She will be very antisocial at first, preferring to be quiet and do her own thing than hanging out with other people. She won't share much of her past with anyone; only the reason she was dreadfully named Vesper and what she did for a living. Her heart is also very heavy from betraying James' trust, someone she fell in love with despite the fact that she was deceiving him on behalf of her boyfriend who had been kidnapped by the terrorist organization, Quantum.
That being said, Vesper is also capable of being very duplicitous. If she has a chance to either protect herself or someone else, she'll take it and if that means being a double agent of sorts, then so be it. Vesper can very well sell her soul to the devil. It is a very horrible flaw that she must live with. She knows it makes her dishonest and distrustful, but she attributes it to human nature. If that person were in her shoes, what would they do? Vesper gets very defensive over this fact.
Character Plans: I plan on having Vesper trying to make up for her duplicity in her world for what she did to James. She doesn't know if she'll run into him as she's seemingly in the future and undead now, but she sees this as a second opportunity to remake her life before she became involved with Yusuf, Quantum, and James.
Appearance/PB: Eva Green as Vesper Lynd
Writing Samples
First Person Sample
After spending a day or two investigating the area, it seems like I've gone into the future and have... come back to life. Where am I? What is this place? The home I have now is so drafty in comparison to the luxury I lived in. My days in Paris, Montenegro, Monte Carlo, Venice... all gone. But now I literally have a new lease on life. I can't help but feel like this is a blessing.
And I don't really believe in God.
Third Person Sample
A strange new place and strange new sensation. Vesper, wearing the red dress she had put on that morning, walked amongst the living. She stood still in the middle of the street, people brushing past her quite rudely; it was something she was used to on any street of any city. Vesper hadn't changed from her dress because she had nothing with her. Nothing but her Blackberry phone which of course wasn't connecting with any of the people she had in her phone book. Siren's Pull. That was the city's name, according to the scientists who had met her where she had landed. It was in the baseball field. They had their equipment out and examined her right away. Was that the judgement everyone had been fearing? She had been measured, her vitals taken along with her blood before putting her clothes back on and being led by someone called a Greeter. A sweet girl who took her to an apartment complex where she was set up before being left to figure it out herself.
Was this the afterlife? A second ago she was trapped in an elevator, water filling her lungs as she urged James not to bother rescuing her. Now she was apparently living -- breathing, a little hungry right now, and feeling -- and very much real. People had greeted her on the field she had landed in; was that St. Peter and his angels? She highly doubted it, even if she was an agnostic. But now wasn't the time to start mulling over what kind of place this was. Vesper needed new clothes, some form of income, and apparently a new flat by next month. She moved forward, blending in with the crowds on the streets of Siren's Pull.
